About the Dignity Education Center

The area.

Munnar is surrounded by tea plantations which are a beautiful part of the landscape that attracts tourists from all over India.

For the many people working in the tea plantations, their children have a difficult time getting a quality education that will lead to a better future. Parents love that their children have a community that values education and positive encouragement.

The DEC was started by Reuben when the pandemic kept him from being able to get the graduate degree he was pursuing in Canada. He saw how kids around his hometown weren’t really being educated. He began to teach English to a few kids. He developed a vision to open a full-time educational center. In the past few years, the center has grown to over 150 students who are now receiving after-school tutoring in English and other subjects. English proficiency is the best way for these kids to raise their standing and economic situation in the community.

The history.

The staff.

12 full-time staff members are committed to providing students a holistic education. The staff is local to Munnar so they understand the needs in the community. We are working to help them with support they need to meet the expenses that are necessary to run the center such as staff salaries, rent, a vehicle to transport students and visit parents, and other related expenses.
